Walk to McDonalds and Egg Cook-off

Our Friday Tiyul took us off Kibbutz to the town of Beit Sh'ean to one of only two kosher McDonalds in all of Israel

In order to get there and back.....we had to walk over two miles each way!!

We made it....even Dave,  who" kvetched" the entire way

Group photo with Ronald

On the way back to Kibbutz, we walked through some of the ruins of Beit Sh'ean.  Beit She'an is one of the most ancient cities in Israel and has a history dating back almost 7,000 years.

Beautiful skies

Hamat Gader and Balloon Art

This week our Tiyul was to Hamat Gader.  This 40 acre park near the Kinneret boasts one of the largest crocodile and alligator farms in the whole Middle East....as well as an Ancient Roman bath and a thermo mineral pool

"Ok then....I'll fight you with one hand!!"

In the Roman Period, the hot springs were renowned for their therapeutic qualities and one of the largest bath complexes in the entire Roman Empire was built at Hamat Gader.

The curative properties of the water at Hamat Gader were described by the historian Eunapius who visited in the 4th century. The water is rich in sulfur as well as other important minerals. Bathing in the water contributes to an accelerated metabolism, cell renewal and the relief of joint pains. The water is almost 108 degrees fahrenheit....and is delightful!!

Dance, Sachne, Shabbos, Bowling and Slacking

Thank you Ori for teaching us how to dance "Gangnam Style"

Our Friday tiyul took us up the road to Sachne, a beautiful natural water park. This old mill Max is standing in front of was used in the Ottoman time to grind wheat to make flour. The rush of water turned the large wheel.

People travel from all over Israel....and the World.... to experience the beauty of Sachne

Ein Gedi and Masada

This week we visited Nahal David Stream, which is a nature reserve in the Judean Desert in Ein Gedi.  Ein Gedi translates as "Spring of the Goat" and is considered one of the most beautiful places in all of Israel.

Crossing a bridge to get to the amazing swimming holes

Some of our hiking was challenging....but well worth it!!

Our two Baylas

In the third century, Jews returned to Ein Gedi and built a small township at this location.  It seems they were very wealthy as they built an impressive and beautiful Shul.  Evidence has been found of workshops used to distill perfumes made from plant products such as balsam. The secret recipes for the perfumes have been lost in the ages.

Nothing like a good hike!

Ken high-fiving Dave after a quick run through the desert

Day two of our tiyul brought us to the mountain top fortress of Masada built by King Herod.  The thrilling story of this site reveals the courage of the Jewish defenders of Masada and their battle against the conquering Romans after they destroyed Yerushaliam and the Jews fled in the first century.

We chose to take the cable car up to the top to soak in the beautiful views of the Dead Sea.

Shaul showing us where the Romans set up camp and the exact location they breached the massive stone walls of the fortress.  Ultimately, the 1,000 Jews living on top of the mountain chose suicide rather than become slaves of their Roman captures.

The hike was challenging....but not for this group!!

We made it down

"okay...who wants to climb back up now???"
